In 1992 a newly formed sculpture committee developed a plan for the establishment of a sculpture park amid 90 acres of meadows, woods, and nature trail. Cedarhurst Sculpture Park, the museum's open-air gallery, was developed so that visitors could experience art in a nature setting. Beginning with support from midwest sculptors, the sculpture park now includes works by nationally and internationally known artists, such as Dennis Oppenheim, Fletcher Benton, Alexander Liberman, and Chakaia Booker.
