The Hunzinger Museum has a collection of items depicting the history of Roanoke. Opened in 1984, the Hunzinger Museum was opened in the Roanoke Park, fulfilling the dream of brothers Frank and Sam Hunzinger. Sam Hunzinger had numerous collections, including Native American artifacts, butterflies, an extensive stamp collection, photographs, as well as several other items that he wished to be preserved. Sam passed away in 1957. Frank then was left the collections and at his death in 1979, he bequeathed $15,000 to help establish a museum. Today this Museum is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend and hosts a variety of hobbies and collections.
